[Review] Torriden Dive-In Soothing Cream & Mild Suncream

I’m back and this time with Torriden, the brand behind one of my favorite serums. Here’s the short  (but also full) version of how this duo landed in my hands: Initially I wasn’t really interested in the Dive-In Soothing Cream because I’m not big on moisturizers but then I came upon some jaw-dropping texture shots that made me waver and also very curious. Meanwhile I wanted to try the Dive-In Mild Suncream because I have an obsession with mineral sunscreen, it’s really as simple as that. If you’re here for the SPF, scroll a bit further down as the cream will get the spotlight first.

Let’s dive right in.

Dive-In Mild Suncream and Soothing Cream

Dive-In Soothing Cream

To be completely honest, I was really disappointed this wasn’t a cleansing oil or cleansing balm because I had my fingers crossed for the longest time when Torriden answered with the Dive-In Soothing Cream. Little did I know, this jar had the ability to woo even the toughest of (moisturizer) critics, aka me.

“Soothing cream that freshly moisturizes and calms your skin with 5D multi-hyaluronic acid complex and trehalose”.

Things to expect from the Dive-In Soothing Cream

The Dive-In Soothing Cream contains a 5D Complex of Hyaluronic Acid that’s comprised of Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, and Hydrolyzed Sodium Hydraluronate. Trehalose works along with the 5D Complex to charge skin with long-lasting moisture and relieve skin of heat and/or stress. It also includes Malachite Extract which gives the cream the signature pastel blue hue that’s found in all the products within the line.

I have to say, I was impressed. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to moisturizers because I am extremely nitpicky, well my skin is I should say but this managed to do it and very quickly I should add. Moisturizers should not feel heavy or tacky but at the same be nourishing and moisturizing without being greasy if they want my love and to my utmost surprise, this does it all. In terms of texture, this thing is airy and weightless, it’s got the glide, it’s got the slide and it thins out beautifully over skin. I’ve got nothing but love for the texture and intense moisture boost.

That’s not all though, this feels incredibly invigorating and I can’t believe I’m saying this but it’s actually something I enjoy layering. It sounds weird but a lot of people with greasy skin don’t like layering creams because the moment we do, all sorts of sirens go off. The Dive-In Soothing Cream makes layering possible because it’s feather light and sinks in without a fuss. But here’s the real winner for me, there’s no tackiness, no residue whatsoever. Long time readers would likely know that I’m not a fan of tackiness in skincare therefore if I ever find a product that works and doesn’t leave behind that dreaded tackiness, you will likely grow sick of me mentioning it and I’m sorry in advance. I don’t know if many can relate but when I have this marriage between grease and stickiness happening on my face, my skin becomes a magnet for everything. It’s an unpleasant thing to experience and I wish it upon no one.

In short, I have no qualms with this. It gives my skin the moisture it wants and leaves it firm and supple without causing skin to feel suffocated or clogged. I get the plump skin I want and this actually has a really nice chill on skin which further impresses as it’s stored at room temperature but cools my skin like a product that’s been in the fridge. I highly recommend this to those with oily skin and especially to those that reside in warm climates with preferences for lightweight moisturizers. This goes on smoothly and charges skin with moisture instantly. It’s comfortable as it does not leave behind any residue on skin and can be used in both your morning and night routine. I prefer this over the Dive-In Cream and surmise those with similar skin types will too.

The good:

  • lightweight, easy to spread texture
  • extremely moisturizing
  • refreshing cream with cooling and soothing effect
  • can be used throughout the year
  • supple and firm skin
  • natural finish
  • vegan-friendly
  • unscented

The bad:

  • none

Dive-In Mild Suncream SPF50+ PA++++

The fastest way to my heart is a sunscreen that possesses both a satisfying texture and finish. I know most prefer the cosmetically elegant textures of chemical sunscreens and I can’t argue those are great too but mineral SPF has always been my preferred choice.

“…mineral sunscreens are like a healthy, home-cooked meal, [while] chemical sunscreens are like the fast food of sunscreens.”

“Moist and mild mineral sunscreen contains low-molecular hyaluronic acid”

Things to know about the Dive-In Mild Suncream:

  • 60ml of product
  • comes packaged in a tube
  • lightweight & creamy
  • easy application
  • mineral SPF that utilizes both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide
  • exhibits a subtle tint of pastel blue due to the inclusion of Malachite Extract
  • unscented
  • has a light white cast

This SPF has a creamy consistency that is fairly easy to spread and blend on skin. I experienced no drag on my skin when I used this but I do believe YMMV. I found this to work best when I applied 2-3 fingers length of product in small amounts as opposed to dumping it on my skin all at once. For those that are concerned with white casts, this does come with a tone-up effect that I think gives skin a brightened look. I’ve used more flattering formulas so while I can’t call this the best, it’s not bad either.

Now for those who want a bit more from their SPFs than just sun protection. How about a skin smoothening effect? If you’re familiar with how primers work, well this works just like one, it minimizes pores and makes skin look porcelain perfect. The satin finish looks quite good on my skin and for that reason, I like to use this even on days I don’t wear makeup just for that nice airbrushed look. I’ve worn this under makeup on a number of occasions and had no issues with layering or pilling. This sunscreen preps skin beautifully for makeup but it also keeps it looking perfect by controlling excess sebum production.

While I do think the Dive-In Mild Suncream is better suited for oily skin types, I do have to point out that its sebum control is both a pro and con for me as its still winter here in Korea. We’re still experiencing frigid temps and dryness so as great as this is for controlling excessive sebum production, it causes a bit of inner dryness. I have to admit, my skin looks amazing on the surface, but let me tell you the inner dryness is no joke and it’s quite uncomfortable. This SPF helps my skin achieve that perfect balance where it looks neither dry nor oily but my skin cries underneath that porcelain perfection. So because of that, I think this is something I would rather have in my arsenal in the spring/summer.

The good:

  • nice texture and not difficult to blend
  • unscented
  • helps with sebum control
  • white cast is not as intense as other physical sunscreens
  • works beautifully as a makeup primer
  • smoothening effect on skin

The bad:

  • may not be suitable for darker skin tones
  • better suited for humid/warmer climate
  • causes inner dryness

Hi Lea! It certainly worked for me! I have oily skin but suffer dryness since the winters here are really tough but this managed to keep my skin well moisturized. It did require a bit of layering but I liked that it never felt suffocating or heavy.
