[Review] Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil

New year, new brand on the blog.

Round Lab has actually been on my radar for a while, I just never expected I would try the the 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil before the famed toner (or foam cleanser which was my first Round Lab product). As a lover of cleansing oils, I knew I had to try this the instant I laid eyes on it so I purchased it alongside the Beauty Recipe Little Mermaid This is Princess Cleansing Oil from Hwahae last summer. I later became even more eager to use it after seeing it in a cleansing oil roundup video Director Pi and her team created (link here if anyone is interested) in the autumn of 2020 but had to wait due to the monstrous size of the Beauty Recipe cleansing oil which really did take an eternity to empty.

The Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil claims to be an all-in-one product designed to tackle all your cleansing needs. It gives skin the lift and cleanse it needs without the pesky residue that we sometimes get from moisturizing cleansing oils. It’s mild enough for daily use but still owns the prowess to effectively remove daily impurities, sunscreen, makeup and fine dust. Like many formulations, this one claims to remove what needs to be removed and leave behind what’s favorable to skin.

Things to know about the Dokdo 1025 Cleansing Oil:

  • 200ml of product
  • no added fragrance
  • light and fresh cleansing oil
  • great for sensitive skin & recommended to oily skin
  • blackhead removal
  • no greasy residue

Ingredients: Ethylhexyl Stearate, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Diisostearyl Malate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Water, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Sea Water, Butylene Glycol, Allantoin, Panthenol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Phosphatidylcholine, Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide NP, Glycine, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Glutamic Acid, Serine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lysine, Alanine, Arginine, Threonine, Proline, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Tocopherol

The cleansing oil is formulated with water from Ulleung Island which supposedly gives skin the perfect moisture balance as it’s said to be rich in minerals and nutrients beneficial to all skin types. The inclusion of Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Sea Water, Hyaluronic Acid and Glutamic Acid supports skin by supplying it with moisture. Evening Primrose Oil works to address dryness and improve skin elasticity while Meadowfoam Seed Oil helps with balancing sebum and keeping skin soft and supple. The 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil is a fragrance-free formulation but does carry a scent of natural oils.

To remove the daily dirt and grime, sunscreen, what have you, I use three pumps which I find gives me an adequate cleanse that extends down to my neck. The texture of this cleansing oil does have a bit of body to it however it’s relatively easy to direct on skin and does not cause the slightest bit of dragging. The product does a fine job at breaking down sunscreen, makeup, and even some of my waterproof eye makeup. I do however follow up with a lip and eye makeup remover because I like to be thorough. I find this cleansing oil to emulsify and wash off quite easily without leaving any sort of residue on skin. The great thing is my skin feels clean post cleansing but not depleted of moisture.

For those with issues with sebaceous filaments, blackheads and whiteheads, this cleansing oil is actually very effective in that department which somewhat surprised me. While a lot of cleansing oils are advertised to be effective at blackhead removal, those that actually deliver on those claims are few and far between. I don’t really have to do anything extra for this to effectively work on my blackheads and sebaceous filaments but Round Lab suggests saturating a cotton pad with its product and applying it to areas with blackheads for 5 minutes and massaging the oil over those areas before rinsing off with warm water.

I can definitely attest to this product’s claim of being mild as I’ve never experienced any sort of irritation from it. I’ve had this get into my eyes on a number of occasions but never experienced any sort of stinging or irritation. I’ve had formulas burn or cause immediate discomfort when the product got in my eyes but the 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil only caused a slight blurriness until I was able to rinse it out.

Honestly, it took me some time to warm up to this cleansing oil since my initial expectations for it were quite high. I was a bit disappointed as it seemed decent but not that much effective at removing blackheads in the beginning. I only later realized the product efficacy after examining the removed blackheads on my hands. Director Pi was right, this is a beast at removing blackheads and I don’t think it gets enough recognition for that.

Amongst all the cleansing oils that I’ve tried in the past few years, I would probably rate the 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil the highest in terms of satisfaction. From packaging to efficacy, it comes out on top for me. I like the texture, how well readily and effectively it dissolves everything and just how easy it is to work with. However like I said, I just love trying different formulations so it’s unlikely I will immediately repurchase this any time soon. From what I know, cleansing balms are more suitable for those with dry skin, therefore I recommend this gem to those with either combination or oily skin but please keep in mind that your experience could be very different from mine.

For those that reside in Korea, you can easily grab this from Hwahae or Olive Young (both online and offline). I paid a little over 10,000KRW for my bottle which came with GWP so I have a travel size set of the cleanser, toner and lotion from the same line from Hwahae. If you’re unable to get this from Korea, I believe you can find it on Yesstyle. If you need help finding it, drop me a comment below or send me an email and I’ll try my best to help.

The good:

  • nice texture, glides easily over skin
  • washes off without a residue
  • safe for everyday use
  • effectively dissolves sunscreen and makeup
  • cleanses pores
  • removes blackheads and sebaceous filaments

The bad:

  • none

Thanks for the review, I’ve been thinking of trying a new cleansing oil, but my eyes are quite sensitive so I rarely move away from the Caudalie one. I might pick this one up soon 🙂

  2. I’ve chosen not to support the brand as I don’t like the nationalist politics it promotes, in my opinion. Plus, I’m really loving the Banila cleansing balms at the moment and don’t see myself straying from those. Great for my dry, sensitive skin, those puppies are.

However, very pleased to hear how much you enjoy using it. Glad you like it so much! 새해 복 많이 받아요~ 🧧

I’ve been looking into this oil cleanser. Do you think it would work well for someone who has sensitive skin?

Hi Liv! I have sensitive skin and this never caused my skin to react negatively, in fact it was incredibly mild for me. I suggest taking a look at the ingredient list to see if there are any ingredients you might be allergic to. Hope that helps ❤️
